I don’t know about you, but coming from a state where everyone wears mainly black — although lately I am seeing a lot more brown— it’s always been hard to get floral maternity dresses to fit seamlessly into my style. When I take holidays to sunnier states, I always get inspired by cute floral dresses and vow to buy something more joyful when I get home. It hasn’t worked yet but my obsession with florals certainly hasn’t waned. It’s very much a wardrobe choice that dominates in sunnier climates and brings a lot of joy to those who wear them. Florals did have a little bit of a name for themselves when it comes to maternity wear though. Unfortunately, historical designs have meant floral dresses can be reminiscent of dowdy, very empire-waistline cuts that can make you look like a human cupcake. Thankfully those days are mostly behind us. And what’s even better is the modern take on florals that even people like me from cooler climates can incorporate into our maternity wardrobe and wear to our babyshowers. Here are a few great choices for when you want to wear florals but don’t want to look dowdy.
